Compensation: $100,000 – $125,000 annually
Schedule/Location: Monday–Friday / In-Office (KAPA)


Position Summary

The Precision Aircraft Management Director of Safety is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety culture, including a Safety Management System (SMS) for all company operations under FAA Part 91 and 135. This role also oversees occupational and workplace safety programs in compliance with OSHA standards.

This position ensures alignment with FAA, OSHA, DOT, and industry safety requirements while maintaining full audit readiness across all departments. The Director of Safety serves as the primary point of contact and accountable executive for all safety, regulatory, and third-party audits and plays a critical leadership role in cultivating a proactive, organization-wide safety culture.

In the event of an accident or incident, this position leads the Emergency Response “Go Team” and coordinates all investigative, reporting, and corrective actions. The company supports all relevant training and certifications, including ARGUS, Contrail, IS-BAO, and Wyvern audit programs.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Safety Leadership

  • Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SMS in accordance with FAA Part 5, ICAO, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure safety policies, objectives, and procedures are clearly defined, communicated, and consistently followed.
  • Chair and manage quarterly Safety Committee meetings to promote cross-functional collaboration.
  • Oversee and maintain safety manuals including SMS Manual, Emergency Response Plan (ERP), and OSHA Manual.
  • Ensure SMS integration and consistency across Part 91 and Part 135 operations.

Audit Leadership & Certification Oversight

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and responsible party for all audits (FAA, OSHA, DOT, Wyvern Wingman, ARGUS Platinum, IS-BAO Stage I/II/III, customer audits such as Contrail/Ovintiv).
  • Maintain year-round audit readiness and documentation standards.
  • Lead audit coordination, internal self-audits, gap analyses, and corrective action tracking.
  • Produce executive audit reports and maintain relationships with external auditors and agencies.

Accident / Incident Prevention & Response

  • Manage Safety Reporting and Investigation System; ensure timely review and closure of reports.
  • Serve as lead investigator for aviation or occupational incidents.
  • Direct Emergency Response Plan and “Go Team” during events.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses and implement corrective/preventive actions.

Workplace & OSHA Safety Oversight

  • Serve as primary authority on workplace safety; develop OSHA compliance programs.
  • Conduct facility inspections and hazard assessments; maintain OSHA 300/300A logs.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials, environmental, and fire protection regs.
  • Lead annual OSHA and general safety training programs.

Training, Communication & Engagement

  • Conduct site visits to promote safety engagement and monitor compliance.
  • Lead ERP drills (one tabletop and one unannounced annually).
  • Publish a monthly Safety Newsletter and administer the ASAP program.
  • Maintain the Hazard Registry and track mitigation to closure.

Organizational Risk & Change Management

  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) process and facilitate cross-department risk assessments.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and provide executive reports.

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure compliance with FAA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations.
  • Coordinate with Flight, Maintenance, Ground, and Corporate departments.
  • Participate in Manager-on-Duty rotation and provide 24/7 on-call safety support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive aviation safety experience (Part 135 preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership in SMS development and administration.
  • FAA Part 135 or equivalent operational experience required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, OSHA standards, ICAO SMS framework, and aviation safety best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage regulatory and third-party audits.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead decisively under pressure; proficiency in safety management software and Microsoft Office.
